Let's face it. It's not Roku that's at fault. Amazon has the same proprietary problems similar to Apple products. Amazon wants to sell it's Amazon TV streaming products. If I'd never received the Amazon Fire Tablet as a gift, I certainly would never have bought one. It's the same reason I won't buy an Apple product. Proprietary marketing keeps you under the thumb of the company's product. It also kills innovation and development of complementary products that would make Amazon Fire Tablets more desirable.
