Can you control the volume on the Roku using the Mobile App Remote?

Re: Mobile App Remote Volume.

Roku players dont have volume control, Roku TVs do.

So yes for a Roku TV, no for a Roku player.

Re: Mobile App Remote Volume.

The Roku Mobile App ought to have volume controls, as well as TV power on/off control, for Roku players.  The Mobile App does not communicate with the ?Roku player through the remote control interface, it communicates through the LAN (and WAN, if you're not home).  So even players whose remote controls don't support volume and TV power control could allow it with the Mobile App.  The only reason not to allow the Mobile App to have volume and TV power controls is the fear that it might cut into sales of remote controls.

But again, Roku players dont have volume controls themselves per se (apart from decoding controls - sound and volume modes), they just pass commands to CE that do (IR via the remote, or CEC via the player).

It could only work if the remote/TV control wasnt programmed for IR control of the TV/AVR - in that case (HDMI CEC) it could/would work with little extra programming required.

For IR-programmed remotes it would have to allow bidirectional realtime communication between the remote and the player and convert network ECP commands to IR in the remote (possible only for WiFi Direct remotes - wouldnt work with simple remotes)

Roku devices (including their remotes) do have a lot of configurability and utility value, but Roku limits it (such as with unidirectional outgoing CEC only) - much of the possible functionality would require significant re-coding of RokuOS modules, which would require additional hiring of OS/hardware programmers/designers, which is something Roku generally prides itself on doing without.

Re: Mobile App Remote Volume.

My Ultra will adjust the volume via voice control. iPhone 14 app and a Fire TV.  I just tap the microphone icon at the top and say “adjust volume” by a particular percent and it seems to work fine. There is a display on the screen, and the volume is adjusting that indicates to me that it is going through the Roku box.
