Re: Invalid "IP Address Not Supported" error

I'm also on a chromebook, the roku app should work fine with it and it's compatible, but connecting just gives the ip address error. Even though I'm on the same exact connection and my ip address should work with it.

the app doesn't like chromebooks for some reason.

Re: Invalid "IP Address Not Supported" error

From what I can tell, Chromebooks use a "bridged" interface when using non-Chrome OS apps (like the Roku Android app). It tells the Roku app that your IP address is "100.115.92.1", which is a public IP address. I don't know of any way to change this easily. There are some Roku casting/control apps as Chrome OS apps, but I don't know if any are good. I found some related information here: https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/5qdif5/do_android_apps_running_on_a_chromebook_receive_a/ and here: https://github.com/aaronjwood/PortAuthority/issues/78.

Re: Invalid "IP Address Not Supported" error

I briefly saw this error, but I had used the Roku app on the Chromebook before, so it already knew about the Roku and largely worked.  However, it stopped doing private listening, which was the reason I used it!  After months of pain, I thought "I'll just clear the Roku app's cache, data, uninstall and reinstall".  Well... Now I can't connect to any of my Rokus from the Chromebook, much less try for private listening.  Cat Mad

Thanks for the tip about other app.  See if it can do private listening.

Re: Invalid "IP Address Not Supported" error

Not sure, but it doesn't look like this app does real screen mirroring, it just allows you to cast local media to the roku tv.

Re: Invalid "IP Address Not Supported" error

I was in the process of setting up a new chromebook and noticed the same issue with the Roku Android app. As someone already pointed out (neonaes), chromeos is doing some type of virtual or bridged IP for Android emulation that the Roku app doesn't like.

However, I did notice while it was scanning for Roku devices, after the error pops up, I could see my device show up behind the error dialog.

It sounds silly, but I tried closing the error message and quickly clicking on the device picture.

It took me a few attempts to get the timing right, but it worked!

Note, that while the controls work (incl microphone & keyboard), audio pass-through doesn't seem to work for me on my device.
