First time trying to stream using the Roku app. I am away from home, using an iPad over a cellular connection. When I try to stream, I see a message about disconnecting from my VPN. I have no VPN installed on the iPad…
That sounds like it's not going through a VPN.
Try logging out of the Roku app then logging in again. Does that fix things?
If not, log out again, then remove the Roku app, restart the iPad, and reinstall the app and log in again. Does that make a difference?
Trying to think of anything that would make the iPad think you're using a VPN.
Oh, you do have WiFi on, even though you're not using WiFi, right? iPads location services like both cellular and WiFi to be on, regardless of which way you're connecting.

Some cellular services do run you through a VPN. What's your carrier?

Thanks for the quick reply. I am on AT&T in the US.
I don't think AT&T is one of the carriers that offer that. They do offer WiFi VPNs and some business account VPNs, but regular home cellular doesn't run through VPN to my understanding.
All that to say I think my suggestion was wrong.
But now it's troubleshooting time.
Using your cellular connections, check your IP address and see if it comes up locally. If you're in, say, Florida and the IP address is, say, Minnesota, then yeah, it's probably using a VPN. But if it's a nearby city, then likely not.

Looks local. I am in MD, near DC, and my IP location comes back as Arlington, VA, also just outside DC.

Updated iOS on the iPad, which, of course, restarted it, and the Roku app started streaming, so don’t know if it was the update or just the restart or a combination of both…
Thanks for the help!!
It's working. That's all that really matters. Glad you got it resolved.
