Here's the issue - when I unplug/plug in the Roku, it finds it. But the second I leave the "service area" and come back, the app on my phone will not connect, no matter what I do. I've verified that they are on the same network. I've tried to manually enter the IP address. I've restarted my phone.
None of it works. And it's insanely annoying to have to reboot the Roku device every time I come downstairs and try to use it.
What could possibly be causing this and how can it be fixed?
For what it's worth - this issue didn't start until I switched from Wow To Spectrum as our internet sp. So I'm guessing that has something to do with it. And of it helps, I'm on a Pixel 4, and the router is an Ubee.
Thanks for the post.
Can you please provide us the following information:
-Roku device model
(these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
-mobile device brand and model
-OS of mobile device
With more information we will be able to look further into the issue.
Am having the same issue. I cannot connect or see Roku devices from the app. Attempting to enter IP address manually doesn’t work. All network connections appear correctly and all are connected on same network.
ive reset the connections to network on all devices and done everything but a factory reset on the device. The app has become garbage with an upgrade to either the device, apple, or the app.
Thanks Danny. Here's the info:
-Roku device model: 3930 X - Roku Express
-serial number: X004003RSP2H
-device ID: S008306RSP2H
-software OS/version: 9.4.0 * build 4190-AE
-mobile device brand and model: Google Pixel 4
-OS of mobile device: Android 11
I have the same problem. My outage serms to be in the early morning hours around 3 a.m. i akways fall back asleep pissd off and when i wake again around 7 its back on.
So annoying. Amd ive lost my remote so aside from buying another im just kinda out pf luck and at technologies mercy.
I found out today that my app won't connect to my Roku Premiere, either. I've tried everything under the sun to get it connected again, and nothing works. It's simply impossible to reconnect the app to the player anymore, which is extremely frustrating as I didn't buy a version with a remote with headphones-out because I figured I could use the app's 'listen through your phone' feature. Big downgrade on the review I left on Amazon for it, right now it's not performing as it's supposed to and there's no viable solution to get it working again as it should.
There are two requirements for the app to connect to a Roku. First, they both must be connected to the same private network. The network must be using an official private IP address range, which shouldn't be an issue for most users. But that means the IPv4 address must be within one of the following ranges:
Most home routers are in the Class C range, but occasionally some cable companies assign IP addresses that fall within their IP address range. The Roku app will only work on Private addresses.
The second requirement is that the wireless portion of your home network does not have any security function enabled that blocks connected devices from seeing each other. Routers will have different names for this function. If you're using a WiFi configured as Guest access, it most certainly has this function enabled. This is a security feature that should not be disabled unless you are absolutely certain you have your network privacy configured correctly. You don't want someone connecting to your home network and being able to browse everything that is connected in your home.
My Roku has a 172.xx.xx.xx IP address, and I've got AP Isolation turned off on my router. Everything else on my network is working, my wife's phone/app works just fine.
