Hulu app not available on Roku HD model 2000C?

Jump to solution

Anyone else having this problem with the Hulu app? The channel keeps coming up as “not available” even after I have removed and re downloaded the channel.

You can see the current devices that Hulu supports here: https://help.hulu.com/s/article/supported-roku?language=en_US

The model of Roku Player you referenced is also no longer supported for Roku OS updates. This is one of our legacy Roku models.

If you have additional questions, or are interested in upgrading to a newer Roku device, feel free to send me a PM and I'll get you in touch with our Support team to see how else we can help.

Thanks,

Tanner

Here’s the proper way to remove and reinstall a Roku app. Betcha skipped step 2.

  1. Remove the app.

  2. Reboot the Roku.

  3. Reinstall the app.

Those are the steps, in that order.

So it won't work without OS updates?

It won't work without Hulu continuing to support it. Hulu dropped support for that model Roku, because it is too old and Roku no longer supports the player. Hulu would have to update their application to continue to work with the older programming language that is no longer supported. So it's not that it requires Roku OS updates, although that might be an additional issue. Hulu has to support it, and they don't feel it's worth the expense to support the older boxes.

Same here. I got the notice telling me if I want to continue watching Hulu I can buy a new device from Roku. I laughed out loud. Forced obsolescence is the quickest way to get me to buy an Amazon Fire TV. It has way more channels and options anyway.

You're blaming Roku for something Hulu decided. It was Hulu that determined the oldest players can no longer support their channel.

But if you also have the model 2000, that player is 10 years old, doesn't support 1080p, has a slow CPU, little RAM and almost no channel storage memory. It probably can't even hold more than 2-3 channels in internal storage. And you expect a modern app like Hulu to work well on it? I completely understand why a provider won't support a player that old. It's completely outdated. And if you think that won't happen with another device, you aren't thinking straight.
