roku won't recognize cell phone connect & refuses to update

hI,

we've got a Roku in a rental place that the internet connection comes from a cell phone & it wont' update the software so teh roku no longer connectts to the internet. Is it possible that bringing it home near our  main internet connection would cause it to do the update?
