express model number question

The internet has been very helpful in helping me find the difference between the ROKU express and the express plus.
However google has failed me in figuring out why there are different model numbers for the express, 3900R, 3900RW and 3900X.

Could someone kindly explain what the letters following the express model number mean?

Thanks!

Identification of the distribution channel aka who sold it as long as the 4 numbers are the same the box hardware is same. The remote buttons may vary for the 4 shortcut buttons along with preloaded items (Channels, Games, etc).

Is'nt X just a generic marker for all of the distribution channels (models)? Or will Roku 9 OS only be rolled out to the Online models per https://blog.roku.com/os-9-release-notes?
