Used Roku Stick; New Remote Won't Pair

I received a used Roku stick that did not have a remote; realizing I needed one to set up the stick, I got the voice remote (via Target). However, it will not pair with the stick. The instructions say that the Roku needs to be updated to 9.4 or higher - I cannot check to see if it is up to date and I cannot connect it to my internet until I have the remote connected. Is there any way for me to use the Roku stick?

Re: Used Roku Stick; New Remote Won't Pair

What color is the Roku stick, purple or black?  Does it have a model number printed on it?

For newer remote to work the 3600 has to be upgraded, look for an older rc-al2 remote on ebay. Or even older rc80 or rc81? Just to get upgraded for it to be able to be controlled by the newer voice remote.
