Use a USB DVD/Blu-Ray drive on Roku Ultra

Is it possible to buy a USB DVD/Blu-Ray drive and use it to play movies?

No, it's not. Those type of players require copy protection that the computer provides to play a protected disc. I would also imagine that the Roku OS is configured to only recognize actual storage media, not something that contains no storage on its own, such as an optical drive. 

Now, would an unprotected video on a disc be recognized if connected via an external DVD drive? I suppose it might be possible, but honestly I don't think it would be worth the effort. For the cost of a Roku and an external DVD or BD drive, you can buy a player (DVD or Blu Ray) and still have a lot of money remaining.
