Stick and private listening

I have a Model 3 and a Stick, but I cannot get either to work with Android mobile app and private listening.
 -  yes it is latest version
- yes it is on the same network, I check several times.
- yes the mobile app controls either device well
- I have a Google Pixel 2 phone
- I have tried but blue tooth and wired connections
- Yes the headphones do seem to work with everything except the Roku devices

I just can't get the private listening to work and as you can see I have read the articles.

Thank you for your help.

On a side note: Roku does seem to actively prevent you from calling and getting support.  Sorry to asked this but does Roku even support their products?  It seem that they have very limited articles and you're on your own.  There are a lot of smart devices, Google, Apple, Amazon, etc.  I've had good luck with Roku but if they don't support their product then is this really a good choice for the long term.  I hope this doesn't sound like I'm just being critical with reason.  I do want to get private listening working and if Roku supports their product then please, direct me to where that might be.

Thank you again.

Re: Stick and private listening

I'm not sure the Roku 3 or the older Roku sticks support private listening..

Read this article, and then click on the link that lists which Roku models support private listening via the mobile app:

Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Re: Stick and private listening

It is true that the link that lists models do not list my models.  But I thought that was for the audio jack private listening, which seems to be limited to a particular remote.  But the mobile app seems to be for any model.  But I can't seem to get that working.

Re: Stick and private listening

I don't think the older Roku models have the orivate listening via app capability.. which model of Roku stick do you have? If it's the older (pre 2016, I believe), I think you're out of luck.

There was someone awhile back that asked why the Roku 3 had private listening via the remote control's headphone jack, but not the mobile app.

As I said in my first reply, I really don't think that private listening via the app works with older models. It is possibly Roku's way of enticing people to buy new products..
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Re: Stick and private listening

To add to it, if you go to be he Google Play Store and read the "more" section of the Roku app, it reads:

* Mobile Private Listening is available for Roku Express, Express+, Roku Streaming Stick (3600), Roku Premiere, Premiere+, Roku Ultra and Roku TVs
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

The link you sent me to says:

This used to work on Roku 2/3 via the mobile app and they took it away.

Help push them to bring this functionality back ( I will not spend money to purchase new devices when the ability on the old ones exists!!!!).  (I actually still have 1 old roku and an old smartphone that do not have internet and have not updated, that this functionality still works on so they can not say it was never supported....I only use it to access my plex server so only requires local network)

Based on this it seems that Roku takes away functionality from older models?  Is that true?

Re: Stick and private listening

Based on his experience, but others in other threads say that functionality never existed in the first place..

Mobile private listening came AFTER the Roku 3 and first gen Roku stick were on the market, so no, they don't take original functionality away.
Yeah, I got some Rokus.

Re: Stick and private listening

Definitely doesn't work on Roku 3. I have one and I don't get the Private Listening option. My Roku Stick (3600) does and is the only model I own that does. Roku Stick 3500 will not work, I have one of those, too, don't get the option..

Re: Stick and private listening

Thank you for getting back with me.  That will save me from a lot of frustration trying to get it two work.  I'd like private listening and, unfortunately, would prefer not to replace working Roku devices with Roku devices Smiley Sad.  But if that feature was never available in the older models, upgrades are a necessity of most new technology products; it's the nature of the beast I suppose  :?

Thanks again, I appreciate your answers and help.

So is community support the best (only) way to get support for a Roku device?
