Roku stick-no light

Hello

I bought my Roku streaming stick 2 years ago and it's been working great up until this past month.  Now I can only get it to work 1 day of the week, usually Saturday for a couple hours.  The day's it doesn't work, the white light on the stick is barely noticeable.  The 1 day it does work, the light on the stick is as bright as a flashlight.  I've changed to another outlet, cord and power adapter.  Still, the light on the stick isn't powering on all the way.  I've tried the different outlet, cord and power adapter on my cell phone and it charges it up with no problem.  I know the warranty is history, but is the streaming stick history too and should I buy another one.  Please give me your thoughts.

Thank you

Re: Roku stick-no light

If the power light is as dim as you indicate, it sounds like the power handling circuit in the Stick is having a problem. Most likely nothing can be done about it. Since you've already tried different power sources, that pretty well eliminates any external issue. Although you said you used the Roku power adapter on your phone. I would still try a different power source on the Stick, just in case.

While you said your Stick is two years old, you didn't list the model number. It's possible you still have an older than expected model, such as the 3600. Nothing inherently wrong with those, and I still have one I use. Just curious which model you have.

Re: Roku stick-no light

Bright light on the Roku no longer comes on but the dim light does when on powered.  I stick the Roku in the freezer for 15 minutes, reconnect cables, and the Roku bright light comes on ready for use.

I reset language and network when prompted but then after a few minutes, before I reach the channel apps, it shows a faint green grid of lines and the bright light goes off again.  I assume there is a capacitor or resistor issue.  I can't open up the Roku to test components.  Several attempts after a freezer visit I was able to download the latest software but still lost the bright light soon after. Ugh!  I assume it's busted for good.

Roku stick-no light - Replacements

3600X here as well. Dim light, no signal.  Emailed Roku and asked for replacement.  The device isn’t that old so should not be having these issues.

Re: Roku stick-no light - Replacements

Well, the 3600 was released in April 2016, so almost 6 years old. Yes, electronic devices that old usually continue to work, but then sometimes they just don't. Electronic devices age differently depending on design and use. And even if they continue functioning, devices can become obsolete and no longer useful. I have a Roku 2 XS, which is now more than 10 years old. It still works, but it's useless because it lacks the processing power to successfully run many of the channels available on Roku devices.

My 3600 is still in use on my grandson's TV, but it's not used extensively. But it's not used for many of the latest channels. For the price of a new player, you might just consider replacing the 3600 with a new Express 4K+. It's still on sale for $25, and it's far more powerful than your Stick.
