Micro SD problem

I have a Sandisk 32GB micro sd card that isn't recognized on my Roku 3. I've tried formatting it on my computer but that doesn't do anything. Is it due to the size? It's sort of hard to find smaller cards these days, and I know 32GB is overkill but the cards was still under like $10. I was getting tired of the constant reloading while switching between apps like Vudu, Youtube, Google Play, and Crackle.

Anyone else have similar problems?

Re: Micro SD problem

I think it could have to do with the "class" of card. I seem to remember reading that the Roku usually does not like cards better than a class 4.

As far as availability of lower memory cards these were the first three of over 71000 hits searching Amazon for cards 8 GB and under:

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSD- ... 6518302011
https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital ... 6518302011

I believe that any of those would work well in a Roku.

Also I have not seen "reloading" problems and I do not use an SD card at all. Of course that could be related to internet speed, mine averages around 50 down.

Re: Micro SD problem

I've always bought microSD cards for Roku from Roku. With one exception. I found a small one at Walmart years ago. Apart from that, I've added some when I bought other stuff from Roku.

If you purchase from Amazon, they have several small one that are under $5 as add-on items (gotta buy other stuff, but can be added on to a purchase). http://amzn.to/29ci96N

Re: Micro SD problem

This was a class 10 card. Guess I'm stuck and will have two doll out a few more bucks to buy some ancient crap microsd card. At least I can use this one in any number piece of modern electronics.

Thanks Roku.

Re: Micro SD problem

Just one other thing... I have seen here on this forum where others have used large microSD cards with success. Might want to search for those posts and see what brands. If I recall, some brands rarely worked, and others worked a lot. I never pursued for reason I stated earlier, so I'm no help on that info.

Re: Micro SD problem

I just upgraded my Roku 2 and being too cheap to buy a card, started scrounging through my desk drawers. I found an Patriot 8GB card and nothing happened when I installed it. Started looking through my old phones and found a Wintec 1GB card. Roku had no problem finding and formatting it, no idea what class either card is, boxes are long gone.. We'll see how long, if ever, it takes to fill it up.

Re: Micro SD problem

Is there any way to tell if it's using internal or external memory for channel storage?

Kind of, in the system settings.  But I've noticed part of the sd card shows used even if storage on the box is still free.

Re: Micro SD problem

I just checked the card in my Roku 3 and it's a Wintec Filemate 16gb class 4, it's worked fine so far, checked the settings and only 0.2 (which i assume is 200mb) has been used and i have about 40 channels and a few games, so such a large card obviously isn't needed, it was just the spare one i had on hand when i got the Roku 3.

Re: Micro SD problem

I just bought 3 Transcend 16GB Class 10 MicroSDHC cards for my ROKU's The ROKU 3 will not recognize any of them but my ROKU 4 recognizes all 3 of them so there must be an issue with the ROKU 3 and other cards that was fixes in the ROKU 4. My big question is will ROKU fix this issue or are we just stuck with is and have to buy new ROKUs?
Yes I do know a 16GB card is very much overkill but that is not the issue.
