Help-- Can't find Apple TV app--Roku 2 XD and also Roku Express

Jump to solution

It is not listed in Streaming Channels for either of my two Roku devices.

Are these devices not compatible?

You can see the list of Roku devices that the Apple TV channel supports here: https://support.roku.com/article/360036652634-how-do-i-use-the-apple-tv-channel-on-my-roku-streaming...

If your device isn't listed, the channel may not be available. We'd recommend contacting Apple support directly for more information here: https://support.apple.com/contact

I'm not surprised the 2 XD isn't listed. That Roku is so old it's no longer a supported model. But it should be there for the Express I would have thought. But Apple is the one that controls which device it's available for. There have been a couple of other threads about the Apple TV app that list the supported Roku devices, so I suggest doing a quick search for them and check for your Express. Like I said, I have no doubt the 2 XD is not supported.

Thanks all. I finally did find an article specifying the necessary model numbers. Neither of mine will work with Apple-TV. Sigh...

Sigh....

It's unthinkable that my < 2 year old Roku Express 3700X would not support the Apple TV app.

All about corporate GREED! What a shame!

You have to blame Apple, not Roku. Only the channel developer can dictate which players are acceptable, as well as any geographical restrictions. Roku has no control over that.

This is solidly on Roku. Their developer ecosystem scrapes the bottom of the barrel and in 2019 (almost 2020) is an absolute joke. Roku and their framework are a nightmare.

They 100 percent have control over how bad their players are. I’m down with them. There will never be another Roku device in my house, ever, and I can’t wait to see them go away.

No, it's not on Roku. They didn't develop the channel, Apple did. And the channel developer has sole control of the devices their channel will be allowed on, and the geographical areas permitted to have it. Roku has zero control over the decisions of the channel developers, as long as they meet the channel guidelines, i.e. no illegal content.

Since you just hopped in here to comment, I don't know which player you have. But the OP's player, the 2 XD, is a very old box and simply doesn't have the hardware to perform up to current user expectations.
