I have had a rokuxr device since 2010. I cannot get Netflix to play a movie.

yes it will still work,but not with netflix.
on dec 1st netflix stopped working on 1st gen. rokus (mid 2011 and earlier).
the technology they use now wasn't built in older models.
some channels may work fine,but others may have problems or not work at all.
frankly,anything connect to the internet that is 9 years old is way over due for a upgrade.
