Do I need to buy 3 ROKU devices to hook up 3 seperate SONY TV's in my home?

I just bought the ROKU Ultra (2022) and hooked it up to one (Sony) TV without any problem.  I have 2 other (Sony) TV's in 2 other bedrooms and SONY does not allow downloading the ROKU app onto their TV platform.  So do I need to buy 2 additional ROKU units for my othe 2 TV's.  Please let me know.  Thank you in advance.

Yes.  The Roku Channel that's available on certain smart TVs isn't the same thing as having an actual Roku device anyway.

@JonR3

@renojim summed it up well.

I guess how you proceed depends on what it is you're after.

Roku is a streaming platform, as are Android/Google TV (which current Sony TVs use), Fire TV, and Apple TV. All of the Big Four streaming platforms are available as separate devices that attach to a TV, or (for Roku, Fire TV, and Android/Google TV) built in to a TV manufactured by others.

As @renojim said, the Roku Channel is simply a source of content, but as you have discovered, isn't available to Android/Google TV devices (assuming your Sony uses that platform).

Roku Channel is a free ad-supported service. It does offer premium subscriptions, which you would watch via Roku Channel.

If you already have a smart TV, you really don't need a Roku device, unless you want apps that are not available on your smart TV platform. Personally, I have Roku devices attached to all my smart TVs. This includes devices with built-in Fire TV and with built-in Android/Google TV. I prefer the platform.

To watch a platform on a different smart TV, you need a device with that platform. In your instance, if you want the Roku experience (not just Roku Channel, but all of the Roku menus and app availability) then you need a Roku on each TV.

Thank you for your response and explanation.  I have a better understanding now.  I just didn't want to buy 2 additional Roku devices if I didn't need to.  But since Sony does not offer the Roku app on their platform I would rather buy 2 more ROKU devices then replace 2 TV sets.  So that's what I will do.

I agree with you and since Sony does not offer the ROKU app on their platform I will buy 2 more ROKU devices because it is cheaper then replacing 2 TV sets

Even if Sony DID have the Roku app available, it only provides access to THE ROKU CHANNEL and its content, not any additional premium services you may have subscribed to through the Roku Channel.  For all the other services available on the Roku but not on the Sony, you'd need a separate Roku (or other streamer) anyway.
