I use my roku 4k stick primarily with the Amazon prime app.
Now, my favorite feature on the Roku was that I could press '*' and switch closed captions on or off Moreover, the stick was reliable in that the "wind 5-seconds backwards" feature put the captions on.
since about a month, it seems to have lost both features. the former is gone, the latter seems to work with some apps but not others.
could someone please enlighten me what happened? or where to complain to? I wonder whether this was roku or amazon doing it.

Recently I started to notice that closed captions stop working for *all* channels after some time on my TCL Roku 4200.
To resolve the issue I use Settings > System > Power > Restart and then close captions work again.
I know I can solve the issue using the above fix, but I don't want to have to always restart my TV to watch close captions.
I have 2 other TCL Roku's where this doesn't happen. Not sure if this is because of a software update to this specific device?
UPDATED:
My particular problem may be related to the Plex App.
<TL;DR: If I play a video with VOBSUB subtitles on Plex, CCs are disabled across all apps on the device. After playing a non VOBSUB video or stream on Plex, CCs reappear across all apps on the device>
Observed behavior:
Clearly a problem to open with Plex, but wanted to update everyone here, incase they are seeing a similar problem.

Thanks for the suggestion here. Some channels do support our * menu settings (during playback) to control closed captions, while others have chosen to control these specifically within the channel itself. If you aren't seeing the * menu option available in a certain channel, please feel free to contact that channel provider directly to inquire further and share your feedback with them.
Thanks,
Tanner
