Can I Permanently Logout of my Roku TV and Still Use It?

Jump to solution

With the advent of ads being displayed by Roku on my brand new Roku TV anytime I pause my Directv, I regret purchasing it.  Since I can't afford to throw it away (which is what it deserves), I'd like to cancel my Roku account and permanently logout of any account whatsoever and just hook up an Apple Tv for streaming along with my Directv. With a cheap universal remote I should be able to cobble together a decent work around.

Hoping that will get rid of the ads.  Is this doable?

No, it won't work without a roku account. What you can do is attach the apple tv to a hdmi input on the roku tv, then go into the settings and set it upon powering up it goes directly to the apple tv input bypassing the roku home screen.

settings> system> power> power on> select hdmi input the apple tv is connected to.

To further clarify my idea....

I want to logout of my Roku account on the TV, kick the TV off my wifi connection and use it as a "dumb" TV set to play an external Apple TV connected to my network for streaming and the DirecTv for everything else.

Can this be done?

Umm.. if you are viewing the HDMI input that your Directv receiver is connected to, everything you see comes from Directv.  The Roku just shows what it is fed.  Best way to kill the ads that Directv began inserting into its Pause display is to disconnect your Directv receiver from the internet.
