Re: setadurl question

Results:

After setting up the php on a 2nd server everything is working. So it was the 1st server that was somehow not alllowing the php to access the images.

Thank you for all the help.

Now my next learning curve: how to get pre-roll commercials to play before each video. Is it anything similar to the display ads being clickable and playing a video?

Best Regards.

Did you figure out what about the first server was preventing it from working?

Re: setadurl question

I was never able to find the problem. So just put the php on the 2nd to test and see if it was working in case there was a problem in php script I was missing somehow.

But glad it's working and the ad is interactive. I don't know how to have each ad play it's corresponding video. I don't want the same video clip for all clickable display ads but for each ad to have it's own video clip. And, some of the clickable display ads will only need a screen with typed paragraph so have not researched how do to that yet. I wanted to get that display to show up first before venturing to the next.

At least having the ads show up now is good.

My best guess is that he was using one of the crappier free web hosts out there. Some of them, even though they support PHP, will insert google tracking code at the end of every request returned by their server (even from a PHP script) -- unless you pay them money to turn off that feature. So if he ran his script from a web browser it would look like it was returning the correct url for his image file, but actually there would be extraneous stuff appended to the response that would likely cause the url returned by the script to fail to parse in the Roku SetAdUrl code.

I'm glad he finally got it working with the new server.

Re: setadurl question

Hi belltown,

You are correct, I am using a temporary server while learning to build. They description says can use php with the server but obviously it doesn't work. Looking to go to a permanent place for files once I can see where the best deal is for the money.

Thanks a ton for all the help. It helped me to learn even more.

Best.

Re: setadurl question

Thanks. Yeah, I was working on a page last month, and we tried using our comcast free webspace - comcast doesn't allow any type of scripting on those pages, so it's a waste in today's world.

Re: setadurl question

I've been looking into locations to host he files. I've been hearing amazon is the least expensive. Heard about a few other places too. I need to get with the right one very soon.

Re: setadurl question

My url's of the videos that play from my clickable display ads are within a php file on a 2nd server. Things were working well. Then, I discovered after looking closer at my category leafs that only two of my category leafs are showing up on the device. (They were showing before I made changes.) The leaf names that are typed in the category.brs are not what is being shown on the device. But, the two leafs on each category actually have the http://xxxx url links literally printed at the top of the leafs while the rest of the category leafs have disappeared from the screen.

Anyone else ever seen this happen?
