Sunsetting uncertified channels

Really Roku?  This is terrible news and may finally get me to give up Roku development entirely.  I can't wait to see the amount of outrage this will cause.  How many people are going to lose channels they've been using for years?  This IDK is no substitute for uncertified channels.

Re: Sunsetting uncertified channels

actually from what i saw in the videos and noticed as change in the Dev portal , IDK is a new tool  , what replaces the uncertified channels is the new "Beta Testing channel" - witch is available only 120 days and every user can have only 2 / account.

IDK is a new tool kit to help those who need it to build applications , to help using Roku  - it is not for channel building ... but i might be wrong

I guess I should have added that beta channels are also not a replacement for uncertified channels.  I can't wait until the uproar from the porn people comes when the find they have to do without.  Smiley Happy

maybe, on the other hand on a free platform having demands for more free service when they - the platform - don't want to offer it anymore with good reason ….  and offered a replacement that actually make sense …. kind of ….

if you followed the Live Sessions they had, it makes sense what they did, and the reason is actually a normal and logical one.

Re: Sunsetting uncertified channels

I would have loved to have heard how it makes sense, "kind of".  It will make my life miserable.  I have far too much invested in niche channels for myself, friends, and family.  Roku has pissed me off over the years, but this takes the cake.  I honestly think there's someone at Roku that thinks, "How can we piss off Jim now?".

Re: Sunsetting uncertified channels

We really need an answer from Roku on this.  When you look at how few devices support the IDK, there is no way it is a replacement for private channels.  I know many of my niche PVR private channel on Roku TV devices.

Re: Sunsetting uncertified channels

Looking at my private channel now this is very ominous

Expiry Date: Feb 23, 2022 (112 days left)

I assume all private channels will die.  No wonder Roku is not publishing this, what a let down.

Re: Sunsetting uncertified channels

Please see our latest developer blog post on the sunsetting of non-certified channels.

The limit on beta channels has been increased from 2 to 10.

Re: Sunsetting uncertified channels

Please bring back un-certified channels, until more TV devices support the new IDK.  2D graphics are still very important for some applications and this rush to change is premature.
