Stats on the various verisons out in the wild

Does Roku provide any stats on this?

I'm curious how many Roku 1's there are out there, since they can only get to firmware 3.1.

Are there any firmware version restrictions for other hardware versions? Or can every other hardware version use the latest Roku software?

Re: Stats on the various verisons out in the wild

There are a bit less than 700k that are plugged in to electricity and connected to the internet. Of those, a bit less than 500k are actually used by anyone, that is out of around 8 million devices we have currently in operation, so you are targeting, relatively speaking, a very small number of devices if you target 3.1 firmware, although 500k families is nothing to sneeze at.

Edit: figures above are for USA only. The only unique other firmware is for Sky boxes, and that is similar to the 4.9 firmware we had a year or so ago.

Thanks. Any other hardware can go all the way up to the latest firmware right?

Thank you for throwing a bone, Joel -
this is useful information, improvement over guestimates from 6mo ago.

I will abstract this for myself to "90% of Rokus in use today are on fw5", easy to remember. Kind of like 90% of iPhones run the latest iOS, 6mo after its release.
