Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I'm running @ 720p and getting the SD images, strange. I did just use the same images for the titles for SD & HD, I'll fix it.

Also, sometimes the audio and video are going out of synch and then it catches back up, I double checked on my computer and the MP4s are fine.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I'm noticing more and more audio sync issues with all channels. I think it's a firmware issue, but I don't have any way to prove it.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I just got a Ruku XD and set up the server and have things running pretty smoothly. Any videos I have encoded over the past year have been done with Handbrake and these play fine. I have a lot of older videos that give me the progress bar twice, the audio plays fine but the video hangs on the first frame. If I fast forward the video hand on the frame where I started from. It appears to be an encoding problem. I searched the forum but the thread has gotten so large that I have not been able to find the specific problem. Attached is the output from media info. This is an mp4 container. It plays fine in VLC and quicktime. It is already very squashed and is not likely to take re-encoding well. Can anyone tell me specifically what the problem is.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I am far from an expert on video encoding, but I have found that often when a video doesn't play properly it's the audio that's to blame. I don't see anything that's obviously wrong with the video, but I have to admit to not knowing what most of the stuff MediaInfo gives means. I know you said the audio plays without the video, but what does MediaInfo give for the audio?

Here is the audio output

Audio
ID : 2
Format : AAC
Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec
Format profile : LC
Codec ID : 40
Duration : 1h 51mn
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 48.0 Kbps
Maximum bit rate : 64.1 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel positions : Front: L R
Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz
Compression mode : Lossy
Stream size : 43.2 MiB (6%)

I don't see anything there expect it is a low bitrate

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Does the Roku care if it is constant or variable bitrate? Or for the Audio if it is 5.1 or prologic sourround? I tried to rip a few of my movies using DVD fab and I get a different result. (I think I used generic h264, 1000 bitrate, AAC audio. Those the progress bar just hangs about halfway and the video never starts.

Try the Handbrake settings on this site. They provide excellent results and function 100% of the time for me:

FYI, 5.1 audio works when you use the AC3 or DTS passthru options.

And your box has to be in 5.1 audio mode.

The documentation does state that for H.264 SD video the audio bit rate should be from 128-256kbps and it says it should be AAC LC (CBR), but I've used variable bit rates. In fact, I can't see how to tell Handbrake to use a constant bit rate for audio. I just encoded a video with a 64k bit rate and it worked. I wasn't able to encode anything with 48k. For the other video formats the box supports, bit rates from as low as 32k or 64k are allowed. It can be very frustrating trying to figure out why a video won't play. I'd say to give what nushmut suggested a try.
