(L)GPL source code

The code for Roku 2 XS Linux kernel and other components wasn't made available yet. I tried contacting support@roku.com (as per http://support.roku.com/entries/246042- ... -resources), but I didn't receive a response in 9 days. Can the relevant source code be published, please?

Re: (L)GPL source code

they're not going to give anyone the code for the kernel, the SDK and Brightscript components for firmware 4.x has not been made publicly available yet and there has been no time line offered on when it will be.

They have an obligation to publish the (L)GPL code in their product, and have always done so for prior releases:
http://support.roku.com/entries/246042- ... s#overview

If you don't understand open source licensing, this might help. In short, Roku chose(wisely, imo) to build their product, in part, upon other people's code; and therefore to agree to the terms of the license(s) that code is under. Part of that agreement(depending on the specific code/license) is providing access to those parts of product's code (and any changes made to to them).

OP, I suggest sending a private message to RokuShawnS (the forum liaison). He should be able to facilitate your request.

Re: (L)GPL source code

my apologies. I understand open-source GPL just didn't realize the Roku was built with it because of talk I have heard about the kernel being locked down. Possibly a better contact for the OP would be one of the developer forum guys like RokuPatrick, etc.

Re: (L)GPL source code

This has been open for a while, please specify where do you provide the source code for the open source parts that you use?

Re: (L)GPL source code

Somebody wants money.  Wasn't the entire platform rewritten, not using any of the current GPL licensed codebase?

Re: (L)GPL source code

Mine here is not a definitive answer but a simple googling ("roku gpl") brought me to
https://www.roku.com/separatelylicensedcode
- which in turn has a link to a box.com repository of 15GB OSS
