remote won't work. what can I do?

Hey everyone. So I have a hisense roku smart TV. Had it for 2ish years. Suddenly last night the remote stopped sending signals to the TV. Now it won't work. I even changes the batteries. What can I do?

Re: remote won't work. what can I do?

Hi @hayanajen

Thanks for posting here in the Community!

Please be advised that remotes for Roku TVs are manufactured directly by the TV manufacturer. We would recommend reaching out to the TV manufacturer's customer support team to report the issue and get help.

You can contact them here: Support - Hisense USA

We appreciate your understanding.

All the best,

Re: remote won't work. what can I do?

@hayanajen-

The remotes furnished with Roku TVs send their signals by Infrared (IR).  You can check whether the remote is sending signals by pointing it at a digital camera, one in a phone or tablet will do.  Watch the camera's view screen while you press buttons on the remote.  If the remote is working, you should see it flash from the end of the remote on the screen.

If the remote proves to be faulty:

Remotes that come with Roku TVs are supplied by the TV manufacturers, not Roku.

All Roku TVs will support any of the Roku "Voice Remotes".  You may be able to find these locally at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc, or of course at online sources like Amazon, eBay, and from Roku itself. These are point-anywhere remotes that connect to the TV via WiFi-direct, and must be paired to the TV to enable them to communicate.  The Voice Remote (replaceable batteries) is about $20 and the Voice Remote Pro (rechargeable internal battery and remote listening earphone jack) is about $30.

IR remotes supplied with Roku TVs are relatively inexpensive.  (IR remotes for Roku DEVICES use a different IR command set than Roku TVs, so IR remotes for Roku devices won't control Roku TVs.)  Appropriate IR remotes are not paired to the Roku, they "just work".  You may be able to find them locally at Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc, or of course at online sources like Amazon and eBay, but not from Roku.  Roku TV remotes from any Roku TV manufacturer or from third party suppliers largely use the same standard set of IR commands and are interchangeable for use on Roku TVs from other manufacturers*.

  • * EXCEPTION: Remotes from HiSense and Sharp can only be used with HiSense or Sharp Roku TVs because they issue a different set of IR commands than the rest of the Roku TV manufacturers.  The Roku TVs from HiSense and Sharp themselves, though, support both sets of Roku TV IR commands so they can be used with remotes from any Roku TV manufacturer.

Thanks to @Tivoburkee for this info.
