I've been using a Roku Premiere, Roku wifi voice remote, Vizio sound bar, and standard LCD for a long time. The TV finally bit the dust so I upgraded to a TCL Roku TV. I connected my sound bar via optical cable and no sound control with the remote. If I connect the Roku Premiere to the HDMI 1 port on the new Roku TV, then the Roku wifi voice remote controls the sound bar once again!
After a lot of troubleshooting, I have basically concluded that the Roku wifi voice remote does not transmit IR signals if it's linked to a Roku TV but will when linked to a Premiere. Can anyone confirm this to be true and is there anyway to return to a single remote for totally control? Also, my sound bar doesn't have the option to link to the TV via HDMI. Thanks!
Yes, when wifi Roku remote is paired to Roku tv it controls the volume by wifi, and doesn't emit IR. And if the soundbar did have HDMI then the Roku tv could control it by Hdmi-cec.
That's really inconvenient. There seems to be a pretty big after market for remotes with IR support for legacy audio devices. I'm pretty surprised Roku didn't include this as a setting with Roku TV since the remote has the capability. Roku tech support tried to convince me the remote lacked the IR functionality but the remote transmits IR everytime it's linked to the Roku Premiere. I understand technology cannot be backwards compatible forever, but if the hardware is capable then it should function.
There is an aftermarket universal the one-for-all urc7935 streamer remote you pick up cheap on eBay. It's one device remote that controls three different devices. Different keys are for different devices. It's also learning remote. It controls streamer, tv, and soundbars.
Works great with roku tv's.
