Voice remote doesn't give option to connect to tv

I just purchased a Roku #Express+ and it started right up. I realized after setup that the power and volume didn't work. When I follow the steps in the settings to connect it to my TV it says "the current remote does not support TV control". It says on the box and website that it's supposed to control the TV power and volume. Please help! model 3931x

What is model number of the remote look in the battery compartment? Not what's written on the box you have purchased. Remote might have been switched.

The model # is RC-EL1.

That's one of the newest remotes available, maybe too new for your model, try checking the roku updates, then retry programming the tv in again.

The remote came with the roku unit. Can you tell me how I should update it?
