I just bought the regular Voice Remote (RC691) from a local Walmart store tonight, and it works great with my old TV set. However, it does increase/decrease my TV’s volume and turns the TV on/off when I press a button, but it did not seem to do that when I tested out the voice control for it, it just displays “[Increasing/Decreasing] volume” or “Power [on/off].” The voice control does work with app shortcuts, though. Shortly after I tested it, I found out the reason why, when I came across a Voice Remote Pro on Roku’s shop site:
*TV voice control requires CEC compatibility
And as far as I know, CEC (Consumer Electronic Control) is exclusive to HDMI connections only. ARC (Audio Return Channel) is also exclusive to HDMI connections only.
Overall, it’s a great remote.
I’m into videotapes and old electronics stuff, including extenders, converters and analog 4:3 TV sets (which are obsolete these days), and Miss Bianca is my favorite character in Disney’s The Rescuers (1977) and its sequel, The Rescuers Down Under (1990). I am not a Roku employee, only a user like you. ~ Jordan
