I have recently changed ISPs and have to use their router.  The router has 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wifi.   According to the router the Roku stick connects at 5GHz preffered.  The remote works for about 5 key presses then stops working for up to a minute then it works for a few more key presses before losing paring again.

If I disable the 5GHz only using 2.4GHz the stick and remote work fine - But this opens another can of unrelated problems so I prefer both 2.4 and 5GHz working.

Question is, how do I either force the Roku to only use 2.4GHz only or fix the remote to keep the paring at 5GHz with out it "wondering off tune" from the stick?

Forgot to include, if I use the remote control feature on the Roku app on the iPhone (5GHz connection) the Streamer works run, why I'm wondering if the remote control is at fault.

If you can assign a different SSID to your 2.4 and 5 GHz radios, that's the easiest way to ensure you connect to the desired band. But you also might need to manually assign the channel, as many routers will auto-assign a DFS channel and Roku devices won't work on those. So manually set your 5 GHz channel to something below 49 or above 148.

Sadly the BT Home Hub has a shared SSID for both channels.

Well, one other potential solution is to install a separate WiFi access point that you can control better. Most home routers can be configured in access point mode, or you can buy a dedicated access point. I have one of each set up in my home that I use in addition to the WiFi that my DSL modem offers, mostly to better cover the large area and three floors.

I spoke too soon!  I cruised the menus, watched a program, pausing, reminding and FF all at 5GHz, just at the end of the program I pressed the Home button and nothing, was back to square 1 with an unresponsive remote.

Using the Secret menu it said the battery was 10% and the remote status was "Sleeping".
