After an hour of experimentation I found a way to get my Roku remote to control audio volume on a hotel Samsung (HG55NT678U). I had already tried the normal method to try to pair the remote with the tv (repeatedly pressing “OK” when I kept hearing the music). After 7 code tries, the message was that the Roku remote couldn’t pair with this tv. But all the buttons worked EXCEPT the sound up/down and the mute.
Finally discovered that if I applied the volume button during the immediate startup, when “ROKU” is bouncing and dancing, for maybe 10 seconds I could set a volume level. On the left side of the screen I could see and set the volume level. Once the ROKU had fully started up, I could no longer control. This solved my problem since I just wanted to turn down the volume so hotel neighbors wouldn’t be inconvenienced by loud speaker volume. Unfortunately, if I wanted to change the volume up or down again, I would have to go through restarting the tv and again setting volume level.

Thanks for entering the conversation, but maybe you didn’t read my post. I tried the standard way to set up the remote to control the tv. It didn’t work, and I explained how it didn’t work, ultimately informing me that the remote couldn’t control this tv.
I even reset my remote, paired it anew with the tv, but the audio control could not be set up.

To help us dive deeper into this, can you please share a bit more info?
Also, we suggest using the Roku mobile app as an alternative remote for your device. Here's where to download the app for free.

--Roku remote model # RC-EL1
The remote came with my Roku stick, which I took from my home and tried to use in the hotel.
--I'm not sure you read my post. The button always worked fine on my home tv. It didn't work on the hotel tv, and I described what I did to check it out. The remote would NOT pair with the hotel tv using the audio sound on 7 or 8 different tries. I think the problem was this lack of pairing. But as I described, I found a "workaround" that, though not completely satisfactory because the volume could not be adjusted during live streaming, it sufficed for the 5 days of our trip.
