Remotes

I have a ROKU streaming stick. It works perfectly, the remote does not. 
I have done all the “tricks” to make the remote work (change batteries, re-boot, setup, pairing, etc). 
I even bought a brand new remote, which worked for a few days... then stopped working. 
What is the problem with these remotes?  I know my stick is working because I can access and use it with my phone. 
I hear what some of you are saying “then just use your phone...” but why don’t the remotes work??

Is there an alternative remote I could buy?  This is the wireless remote - NOT the IR remote, so the standard IR “universal” remotes don’t work. 
Very frustrating, any help appreciated!

The cellphone app doesn't use IR or WIFI, it uses IP, the internet. There are universal remotes from Harmony that control the roku stick by IP as well, you need a harmony that has hub  like the Elite.

I looked at that Harmony Elite remote you suggested - and it costs $350 bucks. 
That’s a LOT more than I want to spend to get my ROKU to work. 
Is there really no other (cheaper) option?

When I review these posts I see that many others have problems with their ROKU remotes too.  Why???

I have never had any trouble with roku remotes, and I tinker with many roku remotes. I spent over $900 on roku remotes from roku itself, that not counting the used ones I purchase off of ebay.

You have NEVER had any trouble with a ROKU remote?  Then what am I doing wrong?  I have had three remotes (voice activated) and all three have stopped working for my Streaming Stick. They all start out fine, and then they just stop working. If I play with them, you know, take the batteries out, restart the ROKU, re-setup the remote, SOMETIMES they will work again — for awhile, but then they stop responding again. It is so frustrating!  I just don’t get it??
