Scroll up & down plus back buttons not working on remote

After spending some time looking through questions and answers, I’ve not found the answer to the problem, how to fix the issue I’m having with the up and down and back buttons. The side to side, forward & backward scroll buttons are working fine though. So far I have tried to hold down the back and home button for 20 seconds. I also unplugged the Roku from the Dynex TV & plugged it back in. I took the fresh batteries out of the remote and then unplugged the Roku until I saw the dancing Roku which at least got my home button working again, but nothing so far has gotten the scroll up and down and back buttons working. I noticed the plugged in Roku is a little warm. Model 3920X. Thanks for any help.

Re: Scroll up & down plus back buttons not working on remote

If the buttons are worn out or dirty no amount of resetting anything will help.  A surefire solution is a new remote or you can use the mobile app as a remote:

Thanks for responding. Do you have a recommendation on what I should buy? My TV is pretty old too. it’s not a smart TV.

Also I barely use the remote, so I’m not sure why it would be worn out or dirty.

Re: Scroll up & down plus back buttons not working on remote

@Tulie, any of the current Roku remotes (except the one specifically for TVs) will work with your 3920.  You can verify whether the current remote is transmitting when you press a button by pointing it at your phone's camera.  You should see a flash on the phone's screen when you press a button.  If the buttons aren't worn out and are just dirty (sometimes it's inactivity that's the problem), it's not easy to take a remote apart, but it's possible and using some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip to clean everything may help.

Many universal remotes also support Roku devices.
