I got a new tv and plugged the roku stick into it. Everything worked fine except the volume buttons. I tried to pair the remote (roku stick has been working fine for almost a year) and the green light won’t stop flashing. Now nothing on the remote works. I tried to get an extra remote to work, pushed the pairing button, not the green light on that one won’t stop flashing either and no buttons work. No screen ever comes up that is trying to pair. And the remote app on my phone can’t find the device either. Not sure what the problem is.

Try unplugging the power to the stick for a few seconds then plugging it back in.  When it starts back up this should make it receptive to a pairing request from your remote.

Once you get it paired, the remote should control the Roku but you may still need another step to get it to control power and volume on the TV.  For this visit Roku menu path Settings > Remotes & devices > Remotes > Remote (In use) > Set up remote for TV control, and follow the prompts.

Thanks. I unplugged it and plugged it back it. Nothing different happened. (I tried that yesterday too). The light on the remote won’t stop flashing. No pairing screen ever comes up. So I can’t get to the settings either. I have the app on my phone to use as a remote, but it won’t pick up that I have a roku stick anymore.

Ok my phone app finally picked the roku stick and I was able to pair my remote with it again. So thanks!!! The volume buttons still aren’t working though. Any idea why? The only think different is a new Sony tv.

@Courtneytrich While @makaiguy is absolutely correct in paring the remote, one thing to keep in mind is that the Roku device doesn't control the volume of an attached TV. The remote is working as two separate devices.

The remote pairs to the Stick (follow @makaiguy direction) but that has absolutely nothing to do with the TV controls. The remote also has separate IR controls that you can configure using the on-screen interface. So, you'll use the Roku to configure the remote for the TV, but once that's done, the actual Roku is out of the picture when it comes to volume and power. The remote is using its IR functionality to communicate directly to the TV. Once configured, you could unplug your Roku and the remote would still control the TV power and volume.

I offer this because your post title and first post content indicates you're thinking it's the Stick that was part of the TV control problems. It never was. Just be aware that once you re-pair the remote to the Stick, you'll have to follow the separate instructions for the new TV. Also be aware that not all TVs are supported by Roku insofar as TV power and volume are concerned.
