Simple remotes don't pair - you point it at the Roku device and it just works. If you have an Express device that's not responding to the remote, make sure there's nothing blocking the front of it. It's very rare, but the IR receiver in the Express could have failed. Assuming the Express is connected to your network, try using the mobile app as a remote.
