Have an old Roku express, a Hisense/Roku tv remote and an old Sanyo TV. The TV has HDMI and I've used it with a Samsung blu-ray player to use Netflix, etc. I'm unable to reset the remote and am am just stuck. Tried the mobile app too. Help please! Ty

A roku tv IR remote will never control a stand alone roku like the express, they just use different IR protocols. Get a cheap universal remote from target, walmart or the dollar store just be sure it lists roku.

The simple answer is to say just get a cheap universal remote that works with Roku.  The Roku TV remote won't work with the Express unless it's an RF remote (has a pairing button in the battery compartment) and may not work even then depending on the model number of the Express (there's been many models).  The app won't work until the Express is connected to your network and you need a remote for that.

The most popular Roku tv wifi remote the rc-al5, would pair with all but the first models of express & express+, but would be useless on ALL non-roku tv's power and volume. For power & volume the rc-al5 only controls roku tv's period. The replacement for rc-al5 the rc-el5, would control non-roku tv's.
