Hello my roku tv remote isn’t working properly it would occasionally go up and down after pressing the buttons numerous times but it’s really hard to get it to move sideways the infrared light isn’t lighting on the remote I can’t afford a new one or a new tv at the moment just had to but a fridge because it stopped working . HELP PLEASE
IR remotes are very simple. With good batteries, they either work or they don't, as long as there isn't a stuck button. Just make certain you have a clear line of sight between the TV IR receiver windows and the remote. What I can't tell you is where that receiver window is located. Somewhere along the bottom, and that's the best I can say.
You can check to see if the remote is working by looking at it through a digital camera, such as a cell phone camera. Look at the window end of the remote through the camera while you press buttons on the remote. If you see a flashing light, the remote is working. If you don't, then it's not. If a change of batteries doesn't fix it, then it has to be replaced. For a zero cost option, you could try using the Roku app on a iOS or Android phone or tablet, as long as the phone and the TV's connected to your home network. But if you need a new remote, you can find generic IR remotes for less than $10 in most stores that sell home electronic devices. Just make sure it lists Roku TVs as a supported device. The majority do.
