So I just received a new Roku 4k streaming stick and set it up on my Panasonic Viera plasma TV. Everything works as intended except for the power button. Now, I have always had issues with the power button on the Roku remote with the fact that I could never get it to work on my TV (I had an old Roku streaming stick on this same tv before this 4k stick) I have a Vizio sound bar for my audio and I was able to get the Roku remote to control that using a trick I just thought of:
When you are setting up the remote to control the power and volume, instead of selecting the brand of TV, I selected the brand of sound bar. And, after countless times of selecting the TV brand and trying to get the music to turn off, one try with the sound bar brand and it worked!
So that leaves me with the power on/off issue. Is there any way to get the remote to control the power on my TV with the remote programmed to the sound bar brand?
Since the Power and Volume are now programmed to the Soundbar, the Power cannot be simulataneously programmed to the TV.
You can try enabling a shortcut on the Home Screen and see if your TV is compatible with that. Go to Settings/Home Screen/Shortcuts/TV Off [Checkmark to Enable]
This should place a shortcut on the Home Screen that may turn off your TV when selected. (may need to enable CEC on your TV, and note not all TVs are compatible with this feature).
If the above works for you, then you can also enable 1-touch play under Settings/System/Control other Devices/1-touch play. By selecting any button on your Roku remote (other than Volume and Power), your TV should automatically turn on, switch to the appropriate HDMI port, wake up the Roku device, and you should find yourself on the Roku Home Screen.
Thanks for the reply. Somehow the remote just turned on the TV by pushing the home button followed by the power button. If I have any issues in the future, I will try your solution idea. I just don't want to mess anything up right now lol.
Good deal. 👍
The Home button is used to "wake up" the Roku. (and to stop streaming by returning to Home Screen when you are finished using the Roku).
The Power and Volume buttons are "tv controls" and will have no effect on the Roku device. (they are programmed to either the TV or the Soundbar).
So you have some sort of configuration that is currently working for you. Just make note how you have it setup so you can do it again if the need arises. (if the Power button is turning on both your Soundbar and the TV, then the Soundbar may be using its own CEC 1-touch play feature to turn the TV on/off for you.)
