Roku 4K+ remotes worked fine at my apartment for starters.
I took the roku to a hotel, connected it and now the roku has a blinking blue light. My roku home screen appears on the tv but says “not connected” in the upper right hand corner, and the remote will not work, so I cannot toggle down to settings to connect it to the internet.
I downloaded the app but it cannot find my device.
I was never prompted for the “hotel dorm connect” option on my roku or phone.
I’m not sure what to do now.
The app won't work until it's connected to the network, so give up on that. Try pairing the remote again. Press and hold the pairing button in the battery compartment of the remote until the green light starts flashing. Unplug the power from the Roku and plug it back in.
The app will never work on a hotel WiFi connection. They all run a security setting that blocks connected devices from seeing each other, and they often don't use a private IP address range, which is also a requirement of the Roku app.
So at their point, is there anyway to get the roku device to work at the hotel?
I used my Express 4K+ at a hotel a couple of weeks ago, no problem. But if the hotel wireless has some odd configuration that isn't triggering the hotel prompt, there isn't much you can do. You might try contacting their Internet customer service line (most hotels contract that out, so would need to provide you the contact info) and see if they can whitelist your Roku's MAC address. That is a unique alphanumeric number that identifies your device on the network. You can see it on the Settings/Network/About screen.
