Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

Still not working. This was such a great feature...

”what did s/he say?”

<hit skip back button>

repeats last 15s with closed captions on

GREAT feature for those completionists who want to know the WHOLE story. Shame Netflix doesn’t think enough of the programming it creates or pays for to implement this properly.

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

We've called Netflix more than once and gotten Nowhere.

First they couldn't understand that this is a problem, and that it was a feature to go back 10 seconds to see/hear things you missed.

Then when my wife called, they said the Update makes Netflix better to watch. Umm no, it is such a pain to go back 30 seconds and have it reload because you missed one word.

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

Well, almost a year after the first posts on this topic, I noticed in the last couple of days that when I hit the regular back button on my Roku once, it now backs up just a couple of seconds and automatically replays. It's enough to replay the last line of dialog, which for me is perfect. Ten seconds is way too long, because it's usually just something in the last comment that I missed.

I had quit using the instant replay button because--Duh!--it had quit doing instant replays. But I tried it again, and now it does the same thing as the back button: automatically replays just a couple of seconds. In other words, the instant replay button and the regular back button still work exactly the same, but now they are both doing something I like much better. It's worked this way for at least two days now.

I can still go back multiple frames if I want to, by hitting the back button more than once.

I am now afraid that by posting this, I will have angered the Netflix gods of vengeance, and they will strike my equipment and break any instant-replay function again. But I wanted to let y'all know.

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

Thank you for posting this. I noticed the same thing myself yesterday. Backing up 2-3 seconds and auto-replaying is excellent performance, compared to not working at all, and I tried hitting it twice, and it worked as well. But if I tried hitting the instant replay button 3 times in a row to go back even further (say, 10 seconds) it returned to the standard rewind mode requiring selection and rebuffering.

But I’ll take 2 seconds of backup over nothing any day!

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

I'm just thinking about how Netflix was telling people that they had nothing to do with the previous change in functionality (i.e., breaking it), yet miraculously the functionality for streaming Netflix shows seems to have changed again at exactly the same time for multiple people. Imagine that!

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

This is still an issue as of January 2022— why is Roku not investigating this issue with Netflix and brokering a fix?? This is such an annoying thing. The button works with all my other streaming services.

#Roku Express (3900 series) for me, but I’m betting there are other Roku models involved.

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

Back in April of 2021 it started working for me again with my Roku Express, 2018 model (not sure if that's the 3900 series or not). Depending on where I pause the streaming, it doesn't work 100% of the time, but it works most of the time, and it's quite usable. I don't know why it's still not working for you--sorry.

I doubt that this has ever been a high-priority item for either Roku or Netflix, and it's good that you've identified Netflix as the only streaming service where the button doesn't work for you. Normally Roku devices check for updates daily (mine says it does), and it's possible to reboot Rokus (which I've had to do a few times when it seems to have frozen). But it seems more likely that the problem is on Netflix's end anyway. I seem to remember that Netflix rolls out different versions to different users as part of testing, so that we don't necessarily all have the same Netflix.

Sorry I don't really have suggestions for you. It absolutely is annoying.

Re: Rewind 10-sec button not functioning properly

I quit Netflix since I found it so annoying that the 10-second rewind doesn't work, and they don't care.

I'll probably come back some day, hopefully it will be fixed by then.
