Replacement Remote For Streambar

Hi

Where would I be able to purchase a replacement remote for my Roku Streambar in the UK?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

Currently, if you want a wireless direct remote with full volume controls, then secondhand on eBay etc. is the only practical option.

Hard to find voice remote currently in UK or Europe, and the new rechargeable voice remote pro is only available in US (a few eBay sellers will ship from US but very expensive!).

IR remotes (Roku or 3rd party) will work except can't control volume (I have posted a suggestion). One4all premium 3rd party has a model which is preconfigured for Roku and can control TV and one other device, can be a little hard to find (also can't control volume).

Roku app on phone/tablet works as remote, maybe get cheap secondhand phone/tablet just for that.

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

When it comes to streambar and universal remotes, the universal only needs standard Roku code, same one Roku IR controlled roku's have been using for 13 years. As for the volume it doesn't need the actual streambar volume so long as the universal remote can control the tv volume, with Hdmi-cec the streambar volume controls the tv and tv volume controls the streambar volume. Since the streambar volume is cec commands anyways.

Not my experience on volume controls. Some TV's don't implement cec correctly.

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

If you get a hold of UEI made remote like One-For-All urc-7880 or Inteset 422-3 models that have roku setup code 03061 on board and accepts 5 digit codes for individual commands like tv controls of the streambars. The roku streambar tv commands are:

tv power 00147

tv vol up 00134

tv vol down 00136

tv mute 00140

To map them on UEI remote key:

1. roku device

2. press and hold SET/Magic for two blinks, release

3. enter 9 9 4

4. tap SET/Magic for on blink

5. enter 5-digit code

6. pick a key

Re: setting up oneforall volume keys to control volume of Roku soundbar.

Is it possible to do a setup on oneforall model urc7935? Or do I need a fancier oneforall model to be able to do the setup listed in previous post (can't see how to do the "994" step on a remote with 5 code numbers assigned to keys).

Have tried setting up roku as audio device on remote as well as streamer using published code, that does not work. And no suitable remote to "learn" from as soundbar comes with wireless direct remote, and I suspect a Roku TV remote has different codes (and I don't have a Roku TV, would need to find one in a shop and ask nicely to use the remote in the shop to do a "learn" on mine)

My (cheap) TV doesn't support CEC (claims it does, have set in settings, but doesn't work).

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

Sorry the 7935 doesn't accept advanced code(EFC) like other OFA remote do. You can use the Streambar remote to teach the 7935 the volume commands, unplug the power from the streambar and its remote will start emitting IR commands so you can teach the 7935. Once you plug the streambar back in the remote will again send wifi commands. But your streambar can accept both IR & wifi.

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

That is very interesting, I did not know the streambar remote also had a fallback IR capability if it could not "hear" the streambar it had been paired with (or maybe any roku direct wireless enabled remote)

Which other Roku remotes have this dual IR/wireless capability?

And I presume that most of the recent oneforall remotes that have full number keypad and learning capability can have individual keys programmed per instructions earlier in this thread.

PS worth reading the recent article by matt stoller about monopolization of the replacement remote industry.

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

All Roku remotes that had TV IR on board have had this feature, it's helpful in getting the discrete channel keys into your universal. The two models of UEI made remotes I listed are pretty much the only aftermarket universal UEI that has the Roku code that accepts most of the current efc's known for Roku. There are few oem remotes with the code 03061 on board like the insignia rmt-415. Looks like the inteset 422 but without learning or backlighting. OFA remotes have accepted efc's since the 1980's. First two digit then three, and now five digit.

Re: Replacement Remote For Streambar

Update from me:

Great advice from tivoburkee. (@Mods pls mark as solution)

Managed to get my OFA 7935 to learn the volume up down (took a few goes to make it stick, following printed instructions, one key at a time). Could not get mute to stick but I am OK with that, volume up down is good enough.

The Soundbar IR "field of view" is a bit tight though, not as wide as most devices, the IR remote needs to point directly at the soundbar

Still waiting to be able to buy the rechargeable Voice Remote Pro at a decent price in the UK. To avoid the small people in the house losing the remotes I have wired the remotes onto a 6 x 10 metal baking tray.  It is a bit tedious to have to unwire the Roku remote every 2 months to replace the batteries (as opposed to plugging into a charger overnight without unwiring).  The OFA IR remote doesn't work well enough to replace the OEM direct remote in that rig, alas (which is what I hoped to be able to do), and the OEM Roku IR remote does not do volume....
