Remote turns on TV but nothing else. We've had no issues x 6 months.

The power button on Roku remotes is only for TVs; it has no effect on your Roku device.  Try pressing Home on your Roku remote - your Roku is probably sleeping.  You can disable "power saving" so it doesn't sleep in Settings->System->Power.
