Are you using the Private Listening feature with your remote by any chance?
If you are still unable to resolve the issue, can you please provide the serial number of your Roku device from Settings>System>About? I'll be able to assist you further from there.

batteries do seem to not last long, but right now my remote is whining and I can't seem to be able to send PMs. Maybe this post will allow me to.
6 rokus in my house and this one has continued issues with the batteries
sw version 10.0.0
new batteries about 2 weeks ago, and now they're not working again. this is common for this particular unit
