I have a older ROKU streaming stick, and the remote has stopped working, I have even tried putting brand new batteries in it. I pair the remote with the TV, and it works for a little while, and then stops working. It especially won't let me use the arrow buttons, so I wonder if the remote and stick are just old?

Is it purple? Then yes, it's probably just old. What's the model number written on it or from Settings->System->About if you can get to it. You can try using the Roku app on your phone as a remote.
