Powering on

My roku remote is working as normal EXCEPT for powering on. I have to use tv remote to power on, but then the roku will navigate normally, and power off. I've tried "pairing", unplugging the roku devise from the hdmi, and of course changing the batteries. Any suggestions?

Re-pairing the remote to the Roku won't accomplish anything else. The issue could be that the TV manufacturer (which you didn't list, by the way; information is helpful) has multiple configurations that may work. When this happens, the Roku will try different settings, and one may partially work, which you don't really find out until after you're done configuring.

Try to configure the remote to the TV again. Do not attempt to re-pair the remote to the Roku. That won't accomplish anything. Focus on configuring the remote to work on the TV.

If after trying again, the setting still doesn't work, go through it again, when when it asks if the music is off, use your TV's actual remote to turn the music back on, then tell the Roku "no" and continue the process as if it simply didn't work. The next one may.

You may have to repeat this step multiple times if the TV manufacturer has used several different remote codes over the years.

Re: Powering on

Thanks for your response DBDukes.

Its an LG TV.

The roku remote was working fine for over a year until yesterday.

Any of the other 4 roku remotes in the house will work to power on the LG TV, but will not navigate since they are not paired, I guess.

Its been a while, and don't remember how to configure roku remote to TV. If you still think that may be the issue after above info, can you tell me how to configure?

Thank you.

The power and volume buttons on wifi-direct Roku remotes send the appropriate signals to your TV via line of sight infrared (IR) signals.  Different tvs have different sets of IR codes they accept, so you have to set up the remote to send the correct signal set for YOUR tv.

Roku menu path:
Settings > Remotes & devices > Remotes > Remote (In use) > Set up remote for TV control
... then follow the prompts.

As previously mentioned, if the TV manufacturer has more than one set of commands, the first one you find may only partially work.  In that case, go through the set up again and don't acknowledge the first attempt that seems to work, continuing on to the next one that seems to work and acknowledging that one.

Re: Powering on

I actually have the same problem that started this morning.  My remote has worked for 6 years and this morning it would not turn my Vizio tv on.  Everything else works fine.  I tried the suggestions and it did not work, in fact it will not turn the tv on or off now.   Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Re: Powering on

Roku remotes with tv power buttons didn't show up until 2018. Just 3 years ago.

settings> remote & devices> remote> REMOTE IN USE!!> program tv> follow prompts

Re: Powering on

My mistake.  I've had the tv for 6 years, the roku for three years and I already tried your suggestion.  It didn't work.  Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Powering on

I have the same problem with my Roku streaming stick model 3800 X and my Sony Bravia, model KDL - 48R510C.

My Powering on problem started a few days ago.

Like others I tried changing batteries, disconnecting and connecting the stick and re-syncing.

The Sony does recognize the Roku stick.

My audio is channeled through a Vizio sound system and is not a problem.

I cannot power my Sony TV and Roku by using the Roku on button, recent problem.
