@chelspels, your credit card has nothing to do with your remote. There's no fee to use a Roku device, so it's not clear what you're saying. Who charged your card? Did you update your payment method at https://my.roku.com or somewhere else?
As for the remote not working, it would help to know the model number of your Roku device written on it somewhere and whether your remote has a microphone button on it (and/or a pairing button on the back or inside the battery compartment).
