One of our Roku Remote Control units can no longer adjust the volume

We have 2 Ultra 4661R Streaming Players, along with the supplied Remote Control Units. We have owned them for more than 2 years, and never had an issue. Both of them are connected to Samsung TV s: one is a Smart TV. Well, this evening the remote control that we use with our Samsung 65" SMART TV stopped controlling the volume. That is, depressing the volume button does nothing. The remote does work like normal for everything else. The steaming unit does flash on the right hand side when the volume button is depressed. I unplugged the 4661R and the HDMI cable, replugged the unit back in (including the HDMI cable), and still the same. Changed the batteries in the remote, and still no change.

But, when I used the remote from the other 4661R on the Samsung 65" TV (and that 4661R), it worked! That is, the volume control function worked like normal. When I tried the "deficient" remote with the 4661R connected to our other TV, it can only turn the TV on and off. Cannot do anything else with it.

The "deficient" remote at least can do most functions with the 4661R connected to the 65" Samsung (Smart TV). So can the "good" remote.

Could use some help, but it seems the "deficient" remote has somehow gone bad. I hope not!

Re: One of our Roku Remote Control units can no longer adjust the volume

I'd suggest reconfiguring the remote for the TV.

Settings > Remotes > [the specific remote] > Set up remote for TV control

It is acting like the TV configuration was somehow lost or corrupted. Re-doing this should resolve that.

This doesn't impact the pairing of the remote to the Ultra. Rather, this is a configuration of the remote, using the Roku Ultra interface, to set IR codes for power and volume on the remote. The power and volume buttons on that remote are capable of controlling most TVs, just like a universal remote. It's not the Roku itself that's controlling the TV, but the remote.

Others have reported loss of tv control (power and mute toggles, volume) when their Rokus updated to Roku version 10. Re-setting the remote for your TV as suggested by @DBDukes should get you back in business.

Re: One of our Roku Remote Control units can no longer adjust the volume

Thanks! That worked. Still a mystery, though, how and why it happened. We turned off the TV at around 10:30 AM yesterday morning like normal, but when I came home later on and turned the TV on about 7 PM, that is when the issue reared its ugly head.

Again, thanks so much. All is good now.
