I've had this Roku (Stick+ I think) for less than 2 years. I usually use the phone app to control the Roku. But in the last 2 weeks when I need to use the Roku remote, it says 'Not Connected' on the home page where the time/clock usually is. Sometimes when I unplug the Roku then plug it back in, the remote pairs with it. Sometimes it takes 2 tries, but today it has been at least 6 times and it still says 'Not Connected. I've switched to using my Amazon FireStick which I hate the UI..
Is the remote broken? I've hardly used it. I did most of the usually trouble shooting(except factory reset). It worked. But the next day the Roku remote and the app won't connect. I can't find my box and I can't use the remote to access model, serial number or anything else.
What can I do?
The not connected has nothing to do with your remote, it's referring to the internet not being connected.
Do you have a solution then? My other stuff seems to connect to the router/internet without any problems. Why is this starting now? I have a TP-Link archer c7. It's about 12 feet from the Roku.
Do you give it a little time to actually connected to the internet? It will go away on its own in a bit.
Yes, like an hour. I pressed the reset button, and guess what? Now I am stuck on Pair Device. For an hour! Also I tried my other Roku the Ultra, to try and relax to some music on TuneIn, the music plays, I plug in the headphones and then no sound, picture freezes, Roku Ultra restarts. Didn't do that yesterday. I bought an Amazon Echo yesterday, did that fvck up everything? It could explain the Ultra problem, but the Stick+ has been doing this for weeks. Around the time I got SlingTV. But I haven't had any connection problems with the Ultra.
WTF? Do you have any answers? I'm lost and mad.
1) Make sure you are using the supplied USB AC adapter to power the SS+ - TV USB ports rarely have enough power (Don't use the TV's USB ports).
2) Your AWR (aka "Long range wireless receiver) may be bad - its the short USB cable with the thick (antenna) section - try replugging this/verifying its connected.
3) Make sure both your SS+ and Ultra are updated: Settings/System/System updates/Check now - 10.0.0-4209 is the latest firmware.
I did all of that a day or two ago. I'm PO today because unplugging and plugging the Roku in the power strip while not connecting got annoying. I must have done it close to a dozen times today. My TVs USB don't provide power. Read my first post, this just started happening in about the last week or two. There are days when I don't use the TV, and 75% of the time I use the mobile app, when the app is finicky or I'm charging the phone, I use the remote.
None of your prior posts, including the OP, mentions the power source - just that you unplugged/replugged (and doesnt indicate whether that's the USB to the SS+, the USB PS to the AC, or the SS+ to the TV).
FYI, all USB ports supply power (its part of the spec), but most TV's USB ports dont supply sufficient power for the SS+.
When a SS+ has trouble both being connected wirelessly and staying paired/pairing to the remote, its usually indicative of a bad AWR/connection to the AWR, or insufficient USB power.
Unfortunately AWRs are "temporarily out of stock" at Roku.com for a while now.
However, considering the behavior of your Ultra when you plugged headphones in and your SS+ behavior, its possible there is some wireless interference/dysfunctionality happening, and this is what is causing the SS+ and Ultra's behaviors.
A misconfigured/malfunctioning wireless device on/near your network may be causing this.
You may want to check your modem/router/gateway's settings and adjust them (2.4/5Ghz channel & bandwidth used, seperate the SSIDs, etc) to see if this resolves anything.
Additionally, you may want to temporarily de-power the "other" Roku and its remote (remove batteries) when using either the SS+ or Ultra to see if it is the source of the wireless instability.
I switched the SS+ to a different wifi network. When I started it and my TV via the power strip on button, I got Not Connected. Again. I held the reset button, and then the pairing only took a few seconds. It worked. I turned off the power strip and about 6 hours later went to watch TV. When the home screen loaded it said, you guessed it, Not Connected.
I'm not wasting any more time with this project. I will use the Amazon FireStick and it's fugly UI until the Google Chromecast goes on sale.
