Need help connecting remote

My Roku has been working fine for 6 months. Recently it reset somehow, and now im struggling to reconnect the remote. The pair button does nothing (the light does not flash after 20 seconds holding it down) nor can i use my phone as a remote because the Roku is no longer connected to the same network after the reset. I also cannot connect my phone manually because the Roku is stuck on the 'Please pick a language' screen and i have no way of selecting the language and continuing the set-up to be able to determine the I.P address. Any advice ? Thanks

What model Roku do you have? Every Roku except for the Stick models support IR, so an inexpensive universal remote can be used if it supports Roku players.
