I have a Roku Ultra Model 4800R.  When I program a personal shortcut button with the following phrase: "Start CNN on Youtube TV", the Roku system instead interprets this as wanting to start the CNNgo app.  The CNNgo is completely different and does not include live CNN which is part of YouTube TV.  Are there alternative voice commands that will work better?  Is there some other workaround?

That feature is only designed to launch channels directly (or any other valid voice command) not launch specific pieces of a channel (as best I can tell that is)

my CNNgo has live feed.  I use tv provider to login. Does youtubeTV not have that?

you could try “PLAY cnn on YouTube tv” but think that’s only for music channels according to docs but worth a shot!

Tried your suggestion of using the command "play cnn on YouTube TV" but still was misinterpreted as CNNgo channel.

My guess is you’re SoL sadly. One other choice is if you have an Apple iOS device you can use iOS ShortCuts to call Roku ECP commands to execute the key presses that take you to the cnn item inside YouTube tv (I did that for TuneIn until I just learned yesterday when looking into your issue that I can use the play xxx on yyy for music apps)

I'm agreeing with your SoL comment.  I tried some alternatives to test the system.  Saying "Play HGTV on YouTube TV" takes me to the HGTVgo app which, again, is something different.  I also tried "Play ABC11 on YouTube TV" (our local news station) and got ABC News which also is not what I wanted.  I'm starting to think that the Roku system is just not that "smart" and unfortunately there are no manual workarounds.

Two other comments:

I don't have any Apple products.

I started this journey be asking customer service.  Now after 3 rounds, back and forth, with email, I'm still not sure if they understand the problem or not.  The best response I've gotten so far is that they've confirmed that button 1 and 2 are voice programable.  Thanks for that piece of advice!!!

Hey at least you got a 2020 Ultra that has programmable buttons plus a mute button! Those are all new features on that unit.   So at least you have one button push to launch YouTube TV app 

I’m sure Android phone can call ECP to do it for you but I only know iPhones so can’t help ya.
