Initial setup and remote isn’t working

I just opened my Roku express, plugged in to the television and the set up screen appeared. When it said let’s get started and choose language, the OK button when pressed did nothing. I checked the batteries which have a full charge but replace them just in case. And they are definitely in the right position with negative on the bottom and positive on the top. Do I need to buy a new remote and if so where do I get one?

Is this express brand new out of a box or just new to you? Does the roku remote have a tv power button and volume keys the side? It shouldn't, express comes with IR remotes it should just work by pointing at the front of the express. You do have line of sight to the roku? You can check to see if the remote is emitting a  signal by pointing at the cell phone camera, if you see flashes its working, then it might be the express itself?
