Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

I purchased the new Roku Voice Remote Pro.  The older Roku remote that I have will control the volume on my Vizio sb3621n-e8 soundbar.  However, I don't know how to make the new remote pair with the soundbar.  I tried looking at the manual and also contacted Vizio support.  They were only able to offer a code for a universal remote, which doesn't help.

Anyone know how?

Re: Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

Vizio soundbar usually respond to Vizio TV codes, so program it for Vizio tv. Roku remotes only have codes for Tv sets, no audio devices. Its upto the tv to control the audio device by hdmi-cec. So the roku remote controls the tv, while the tv controls the soundbar. Refresh the cec devices in your tv settings.

Re: Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

Even with the TV unplugged, the Vizio soundbar still responds and turns on when I press the volume buttons on the side of the old Roku remote.  So it's communicating directly with the soundbar.

But I don't know how to pair the new Roku Voice Pro remote to do the same with the Vizio sb3621n-e8.

Re: Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

Right, as I said Vizio Soundbars respond directly to vizio tv commands. Get the Vizio tv command programmed into the roku remote and it should work. That is exception to the rule. Soundbars usually have their own commands that are different from the same brands tv's.

To program the remote for tv, it has to use the roku menu, so it has to be paired to a roku device. Go inbto settings> remote & devices> remote> REMOTE IN USE> program tv> follow prompts.

Its guesses at what brand of tv you have and tries those codes. If it comes back asking you to pick the tv brand, chose Vizio.

Re: Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

I have the same exact issue. Old remote controls the vizio sound bar perfectly. Cannot get new voice remote to do the same. The options that the other user gave are not available in my menu selections. Did you ever find a solution? Or was it a mistake to upgrade remotes?

Re: Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

Roku remotes don't control audio devices directly, only tv's. So program your new remote for your tv, refresh the cec devices in the settings of your tv. Roku controls the tv, tv controls the soundbar via hdmi-cec.

Re: Difficulty Pairing with Vizio Sound Bar

I had a Roku streaming stick and an old flat screen LED tv. I got a new Sceptre tv and a Vizio sound bar. The Sceptre tv I bought is NOT a smart tv, and the only way I could connect the sound bar was by digital optical cable. I kept reading that I wouldn't be able to pair the sound bar with the Roku remote because it wasn't an HDMI connection, and there was even a message on the Roku screen that this particular voice remote would NOT control a sound bar.

I found another comment talking about the possibility that my Vizio sound bar may have a "learning mode" that would allow me to connect it to the Roku remote. (Do a search for your sound bar to see if it has a learning mode. I had to use the Vizio sound bar remote to put it in this mode.) Sure enough, it allowed the Roku remote to control the sound bar. The only problem was--now the Roku remote controlled the sound bar sound AND the Sceptre tv sound at the same time. I could mute the tv audio, but every time I changed the volume of the sound bar with the Roku remote, the tv sound would kick back in.

My brother turned the speakers off on the tv and the problem was solved. Now the Roku voice remote controls the tv and the sound bar. Ta-dah!!
